Clint —
Big news late last week — a federal judge threw out the Trump Administration’s approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, sending TransCanada back to the drawing board. But this win could be temporary. This pipeline has been like a recurring nightmare… Every time we think it’s dead, the zombie pipeline rises again. But we’ve stopped Keystone XL before, and we will stop it again. With just over a decade left to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, this is NO time to invest in a dirty tar sands oil pipeline — that would guarantee the real life nightmare of a world beyond 1.5 degrees of warming, and the consequences would be worse than any horror movie you’ve ever seen. Right now, we have an opportunity to STOP Keystone XL in its tracks, and YOUR voice is critical.Despite Indigenous rights abuses and this recent court ruling, in less than a month, Chase Bank will decide if it should lend a $1.5 BILLION line of credit to TransCanada, the company behind Keystone XL. Our goal is to deliver at least 50,000 letters to Chase before the December 14th decision. Will you help us Clint? The Keystone Pipeline would transport 830,000 barrels PER DAY of dirty tar sands oil. That’s comparable to the tailpipe emissions from more than 37.7 million cars or 51 coal-fired power plants! Our goal is to keep climate change below 1.5 degrees, and the only way to achieve that is to keep all of the world’s remaining fossil fuels in the ground – starting right NOW. Last month we introduced you to key Chase executives. You helped us send over 25 thousand emails to push Chase executives to end funding for Enbridge and their dirty pipelines, and now it’s time to demand they do the same for Keystone XL. Write to our new “friends” in Chase’s executive offices and DEMAND they cut funding to TransCanada, Enbridge and all of the other pipeline companies. It’s time to remind them that funding Keystone XL and TransCanada goes against what the global science community is telling us we need to do to stop climate change in its tracks. The solution is simple, Chase needs to get on the right side of history or we will keep amping up the pressure on them until they do. |
